The biggest announcement of the AFM yet : Paramount gets rights to the ‘Book Club’ for $10 million
Among what is touted as the biggest announcement coming from this years’ AFM, Paramount has taken the American, UK and French rights to the upcoming comedy film ‘Book Club’ for $10 million. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2018 and is a pet project of June Pictures. The deal, as learned by the media, was brokered by Endeavor Content.
The whole action started after a three-minute trailer was shown to all the buyers present at the AFM. What followed was a series of bids during the auction which soon crossed the 8 figure mark and ended up in the laps of Paramount.
The comedy is based upon the lives of a group of lifelong friends who are now in a ripe old age of 60s. They are members of a local monthly book club and often happen to catch each other there. They happen to read the Fifty Shades of Grey on one such day at the book club. What follows is a series of events which changes their lives forever.
Cast and Crew in the Book Club
The movie stars some of the well-known names like Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Dian Keaton, Andy Garcia, Mary Steenburgen, Richard Dreyfuss, Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Katie Aselton, Tomy Dewey, Alicia Silverstone, Wallace Shawn and Ed Begley Jr. The movie’s screenplay was written by Erin Simms and Bill Holderman, the latter of which also happens to be the debut director of this movie.
As per the initial release to the media, Bloom would be responsible for handling the international sales of the movie before and after its release. The producers of the film happen to be Holderman, Simms, Alex Saks and Andrew Duncan and the film is being co-financed by June Pictures and Endeavor Content.
